What is Brush Up?
BRUSH UP is an annual community-based event that provides volunteers with the opportunity to paint the homes of low-income seniors in the Omaha Metropolitan Area. In 2020, BRUSH UP celebrated it’s 31st anniversary with 30 volunteer teams painting 24 homes!
In July 2019, Brush Up Nebraska and Project Houseworks merged. Brush Up Nebraska needed new leadership, which led to discussions with Project Houseworks to ensure the continuation of free house painting for seniors. In 2019, an asset transfer was completed from Brush Up Nebraska to Project Houseworks. Project Houseworks is now continuing the annual BRUSH UP event as part of our programming. The annual BRUSH UP event is held in August, in which volunteer teams are recruited to paint homes of low-income seniors. August 17th, 2019 marked the 30th anniversary of the event where 40 teams painted homes for seniors. We look forward to growing the event so that we can serve more seniors.
To date, we have served 2,929 families in the Omaha-Metro Area, over 83,174 volunteers have applied to participate, and 43,000 gallons of paint and primer have been used to bring life back into homes in our community.
